It is probably true that you like most want to be ‘Healthy’. The questions I ask you then are: What is ‘Health’? How do you know you are ‘Healthy’?
So let’s see which choice you feel best completes these sentences:
Health is…
- not having any pain.
- not having any symptoms.
- not being sick.
- proper body function.
I am healthy when…
- I am not sore.
- I feel young.
- my does what it’s supposed to
- I don’t have to go to the doctor.
So how do you think you did answering these questions? Was it hard to think about what being healthy really means and what health really is? Have you ever given it this much thought before? It is pretty hard to think about what health is, when there are so many different definitions to consider. So let’s look at how ‘Health’ is defined by mainstream media/public and then I will give you a great new way to define ‘Health’ and if you are ‘Healthy’.
Definitions of health on the Web:
- a healthy state of well-being free from disease; “physicians should be held responsible for the health of their patients”
- the general condition of body and mind; “his delicate health”; “in poor health”
wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn - Health: the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit; especially : freedom from physical disease or pain b : the general condition of the body <in poor health> <enjoys good health> http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/health
So based on these definitions of ‘Health’, you are only healthy if you do not have any physical problems or signs of disease or pain. This would be a pretty good thought process if you did not know anyone that lost their life without having any physical problems or signs of disease or pain. Many individuals pass away each day with no precipitating factors (i.e. signs or symptoms of disease). Taking this into consideration, is there a better definition of health? Yes, the World Health Organization defines ‘Health’ as such:
- Health is generally defined as being “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. This definition is used by the World Health Organization (WHO) since 1948. …

So based on the definition of health used by the WHO there is a lot more than symptoms and pain that contribute to health. We must look at the body as a whole to consider if health is portrayed.
We are still left with the question…How do I know I am Healthy? The best way to know if you are ‘Healthy’ is by asking yourself this question. Is my body doing what it’s supposed to, when it is supposed to do it? That is how you were designed; a miraculous design that needs good food, good water, good air, good exercise, good structure and good friendship to sustain a ‘Healthy Life’. This is difficult to do, because it is in today’s life styles.
So what does Chiropractic care have to do with health? The miraculous you that displays life and health is organized and run by your nervous system. When you have vertebral subluxations there is a mind-body disconnect/interference that does not allow you to function to your potential – does not let your body do what it is supposed to when it is supposed to do it. A Chiropractor restores this mind-body connection, thus increasing your potential to deal with life’s obstacles in order to maintain ‘Health’. So make regular spinal checks part of your body’s maintenance program!
